About Charles

Charles is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has lived in Carrollton, Georgia, with his wife, Becky, since 1975. Even though he has not always been involved with the “professional” aspect of counseling, Charles began counseling when he was 18 years old while serving churches as Minister of Music and Youth.

Charles quips, “As I matured (read that ‘balder and more rounded’), the parents of the youth who were participating in the church youth programs started asking me to counsel with them concerning family and relationship issues. And for many years I did so without having received any formal counselor training.”

In 1982 Charles resigned from full-time church ministry, enrolled in The Georgia School of Professional Psychology (now Argosy University), and earned a Master’s degree in counseling. Following graduation he went to work for the public mental health system in Carroll Co. GA, where he worked as a Mental Health Professional at Pathways Center. While at Pathways he counseled with individuals with the full range of psychological and emotional disorders, including Anxiety, Panic, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Psychosis. He also facilitated groups for Anger Management and Men's Domestic Violence. Charles was the first counselor for Pathways Men's Domestic Violence program and he was instrumental in establishing that program. Charles was also instrumental in expanding the Anger Management group counseling program for Pathways. Charles is a charter member of the Carroll County Domestic Violence Task Force, and he remains active in that organization.

Charles resigned from Pathways in July 2009 in order to devote full time to his private practice and to his passion for helping couples who are planning to be married, and helping couples restore their troubled marriages. Charles says, “I believe in marriage. I’m blessed to have been married to the same woman since 1965. We know what it’s like to have marriage problems – and to work through those problems. My heart’s desire is to help couples who may be planning to marry or those whose relationship may be struggling after several years of marriage. I believe there is no obstacle so great that it can’t be conquered if there is just a little bit of “one-more-try” in each of you.”

In addition to marriage counseling, Charles also enjoys working with individuals who have problems with Panic Attacks and other Anxiety Disorders. While medication is effective and is often the prescribed course of treatment for these issues, Charles works with individuals to help them reduce their need for medication, or in some cases to eliminate their need for medication all together. Charles is one of eleven Licensed Professional Counselors on the panel of Professional Counselors for Georgia Reproductive Specialists located in Atlanta. In this capacity he counsels with couples who are considering conceiving through the use of assisted reproductive technology.
